Our elementary Kindness Club members meet two Mondays a month during their lunch/recess periods and are sponsored by Megan Schaaf and Sarah Victor. As a group, they brainstorm activities for the elementary students and discuss ways that they can help make our school a better place. These 5th and 6th grade members have become positive leaders in our school. Members plan and actively participate in monthly assemblies for Fremont-Mills Elementary.
This year’s assemblies focused on recognizing the class in the building with the highest percentage of student attendance. Each month, the winning class was brought on stage to play a game organized by Kindness Club members. In November, the Kindness Club members decided to hold a “Food Drive” for our local food pantry. Members helped make posters and sent letters home to families to explain the need for food donations. A friendly Husker vs. Hawkeye competition was started and the winning team was the Tabor Food Pantry, 1,180 items were collected. The students then helped deliver the food to the local pantry.
In December, our Kindness Club members participated in the Miracle on Main Parade. To add some fun to the school days, this year, Kindness Club members have organized dress up days for the elementary students. In the months of March and April they hid puzzle pieces in Easter eggs for students to find. Upon finding the puzzle pieces, students worked together to assemble two puzzles.
Throughout the school year, elementary students work to fill up their punch cards. This year’s reward for filling up punch cards is an ice cream party that will be organized by Kindness Club members. Overall the club provides many benefits to our school and allows upper elementary students a chance to be positive leaders and role models to the rest of the elementary students.
